MOLTEN SALT REACTORS - PAST, PRESENT, FUTURE

- by Alexander DeVolpi

VIEW PRESENTATION HERE

Summary/Abstract:
Molten Salt Reactors, first developed at Oak Ridge in the 1950s, are staging a
comeback. Many companies, several governments, and various private initiatives
have found that reactors using molten salts as a nuclear fuel carrier and/or
coolant have intrinsic attributes in terms of reactor safety, operating costs,
and product value. An overview of technical, industrial, and environmental
features will be presented.

Bio:
Dr. Alexander DeVolpi, President/CEO, Nuclear Applications Company, Oceanside,
is a nuclear physicist with 40 years professional experience at Argonne National
Laboratory. He has a PhD in physics, an MS in nuclear-engineering physics (both
from Virginia Tech), as well as being a graduate of Argonne's International School
of Nuclear Science and Engineering. His focus has been on reactor instrumentation,
experimental diagnostics, and specialized technology. Various technical publications
are in reactor physics, radiation instruments, nuclear diagnostics, reactor safety,
and plutonium nonproliferation. He is a Fellow of the American Physical Society and
